We all hope that we never have to be at the scene of a motorcycle accident but if you ever should be, here are some basic first aid tips:
Reassure victim
Ring 999 and report the accident
Do not move casualty
Check ABC - Airways, Breathing and Circulation
If breathing is normal - LEAVE HELMET ON
If airway is blocked helmet must be removed (hopefully emergency services will have arrived at the scene by now)
Check pulse and breathing at 5 minute intervals
Watch for signs of shock
Stop bleeding by applying pressue
Establish a few people around the scene to help direct traffic
On a ride out it would be an advantage to have a basic first aider at all times, unfortunately this is not always possible, so if there are any first aiders out there please let me know so I can make a comprehensive list.
The Event Release
At each ride-out/event, members, non-members and guests are requested by the Road Capain to sign an 'Event Release'. You append your name, signature and give permission for First Aid to be carried out in the event of an accident. You are actually signing that you have read all the rules and conditions that appear on the front of the 'Event Release' and agree to be bound by them. A copy of the Event Release can be found here:
Event Release
Please take time to read it. Thank you.
Thanks for your support at all times
